Tips for Staying Fit During the Winter Months

We all know how hard it can be to drag ourselves out of bed on the cold dark mornings when we can hear the rain outside. It’s so easy to be sucked into those lazy and unmotivated habits that we so often feel this time of year. But it’s important to reflect on how far we’ve come and how much progress we’ve made. Let’s not let these dark days take it from us!

Here are some tips on how you can stay active through the shorter/ darker days:

  • Create a realistic schedule
  • If 6am classes are simply not going to happen when you wake up in complete darkness and want nothing more than to roll over, that's ok! Find what works best for you whether that’s an early morning workout class or maybe in the evening. Setting a realistic schedule means you will actually stick to it and won’t feel terrible for not sticking to an unrealistic expectation of yourself.

  • Use daylight and dry weather to your advantage.
  • Make the most of whatever dry, sunny periods we can get over the winter period. They are few and far between we know! Maybe during your lunch break at work, try to get out for 15 or 20 mins for a stroll - get your steps in and get some fresh air. This is not only beneficial for physical health but also for your mental health.

You can also use this time to reconnect with a friend and go get a coffee and a walk together. The Christmas period is a great opportunity to reconnect with friends, so you can incorporate this into your exercise schedule. A walk with a friend is a great way to exercise.

  • Home Workouts
  • This concept isn’t lost on our queens. When it's dark and rainy in the mornings and evenings, it’s hard to get out the door to the gym or for a walk, so why not exercise from the comfort of your living room floor. Luckily for all of us, this is our forte at Queens Don’t Quit. As all of our queens know, our home workouts are more than effective and leave you feeling sweaty and amazing. And what’s better than working out from the comfort of your own home?

Us Irish queens know the hardship of winter in Ireland. But let's not let the bad weather stop us from reaching our goals!
